Back when Friends was journeying its way to the finale, Matthew Perry had opened up about his feelings about his paycheck. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (via PEOPLE), he confessed to feeling a “little guilty” while negotiating the amount. Throughout each season, there was a notable increase in the initial amount, starting from $75,000 and reaching up to $1M by the conclusion of the series.
On addressing the pact negotiations, Perry had revealed his ambiguity since he was there “doing something I love”. He also emphasized that the most significant responsibility was ensuring “you have to go home and go to sleep.” rather than indulging in the “37th drink” simply because one can afford it. Perry also affirmed that he would quit all his money and fame if required to avoid phasing into addiction.
A star who remained faithful to his pledges, the farewell was intended to be heart-wrenching. However, it still makes one wonder about the lingering fate of his residual earnings.
