Matthew Perry Wanted Zac Efron to Play Him in a Movie, ‘Friends’ Actor’s Close Pal Reveals Optimistic Details
After recovering from his addiction, Matthew Perry often told everyone that he wanted to be remembered as someone who lived and loved well. He wanted people to remember him as someone who helped as many people as possible. The Friends star, before passing away, published a memoir where he narrated his entire journey to help as many seekers as he could. Before his tragic demise on the 28th of October, the Canadian actor did try to help. However, he wanted to do more.
The Numb actor wanted Zac Efron to portray him in a movie he was planning to make for a specific reason.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Canada, Perry’s friend, Athenna Crosby, revealed she met with the late actor for lunch before his demise. She revealed how the 54-year-old actor’s future plans included having a biopic on his life. Further, she revealed how the late actor wanted Zac Efron to play his younger version. Shockingly, he was planning to ask Efron soon to do that as well.
During the conversation with the media house, Crosby revealed Matthew Perry was very keen on the idea of depicting his journey of overcoming the disease. Talking more about Perry’s feelings, Crosby said, “he was so optimistic and happy about everything that he wanted to do.” Unfortunately, before he could take any further steps, the news of his sudden demise shattered many.
Crosby did not reveal more details about Perry’s project. However, she certainly expressed her excitement given Zac Efron’s history of working with the Go On actor in 17 Again.

17 Again is a 2009 comedy-drama where Zac Efron plays the role of Perry’s character, Mike O’Donnell’s younger version. After Mike, 37, transforms into a 17-year-old boy, he helps his children in solving their problems. He also mends his relationship with his wife, Scarlet O’Donnell, portrayed by Leslie Mann. Fans loved both charming actors alongside each other in the 2009 movie.
Given this collaboration between the actors, it might have been an amazing opportunity to see the Perry-Efron duo at work once again. Unfortunately, the very next day of their discussion, Crosby heard devastating and heart-wrenching news. But it was an honor for her to know Matthew Perry personally, as she said before concluding their conversation.
