Matthew Perry has passed away on the 28th of October. The unfortunate demise has rocked most to the core and also eerily happens to be his ex-girlfriend Julia Roberts’s birthday. The duo dated in the 1990s. But more than that, viewers remembered what Perry had said in a People interview in 2022 about finding love and being a father now that he’s free from his addiction. He went on to say that he had long hated intimacy and had driven away ladies who became too close to him.

Matthew Perry’s love life had been quite complicated. The actor has had several high-profile relationships, including Julia Roberts and Mean Girls actress Lizzy Caplan. However, the actor admits that he was the one who broke all of those relationships because he “was afraid,” and that he used to “manifest that something was wrong with them.” He further admitted that he used to believe he left first because he feared they would “annihilate” him. As he passes away too soon, fans cannot help but grieve at what could have been.

Friends’ aficionados can momentarily remember the episode The One After the Superbowl, Part 2, where Chandler Bing dated Susie Moss, played by Julia Roberts. The actress’s appearance on the broadcast was noteworthy for two reasons. One is that she deliberately requested to be a part of Matthew Perry’s storyline on the TV show. Two, the duo were dating in real life. The relationship only lasted for 3 months as revealed by Perry’s memoir.

The gifted actor stated in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Things that dating Roberts, who was already a great name in Hollywood, was “too much” for him.” The actor was confident that the actress would end their relationship because he did not believe he was “good enough,” for her. So, to avoid the misery of losing her, he made the difficult decision to end their relationship.  However, as he passes away on her birthday, it is truly a loss both the actress and fans will take a while to make amends with.
