Once upon a super-powered time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was stacked with Avengers so mighty they could bench-press planets and still make it to the red carpet. For a while, the MCU ran box office like Thor runs into battle: loud, lightning-charged, and with zero subtlety. But after the Endgame curtain fell, box office numbers started looking like Ant-Man’s paycheck next to Tony Stark’s. Desperate to reignite the magic, Marvel cracked open the afterlife like a plot twist. Now, rumor has it, the God of Himself, Chris Hemsworth, is next in line for a Marvel send-off.
Yet, following Robert Downey Jr.’s exit, which left Marvel scrambling for emotional duct tape, all one hopes is that Marvel gives the Asgardian a farewell fit for a king.

According to a recent crumb from Cosmic Circus’ Lizzie Hill, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is expected to regroup with the mischief-maker Loki at one point or the other in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. In fact, Thor would be one of the last original guardians of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the tabloid also fanned the flames of a rumored Asgardian farewell for Hemsworth, citing Alex Perez.
“Marvel wanted to give Chris Hemsworth’s Thor a proper send-off in these movies in an epic way, with sources pointing to New Avengers (Vol. 3) #32 as the inspiration,” Hill said. While the farewell could end Thor’s arc, it does not rule out the possibility of the character’s return. Since the Thor Corps and other God of Thunder mythologies from Marvel Comics will be adapted in Secret Wars and beyond, the likelihood of Thor’s return remains.
Though only time will reveal what the Marvel Cinematic Universe has actually planned for our beloved Thor, here is an overview of Chris Hemsworth’s Marvel legacy for now.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Over a decade ago, Sony Pictures announced Chris Hemsworth would star in Shadow Runner, which never materialized. However, in 2011, the same year, the actor found his superhero worth as Thor in the first movie. The next year, he reprised his role for The Avengers as one of the six superheroes alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner.

Hemsworth then appeared in Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Avengers: Endgame, and Deadpool & Wolverine. He was also declared during the superstar announcement of the Avengers: Doomsday cast. Although it remains to be seen whether the rumors hold any weight in the future, all one can pray is that at least he is left in a space Viking with killer biceps and a magic hammer.
