Marvel Director Marks Major Criticism of Last Henry Cavill Lead DC Project, Before James Gunn Takeover
Since James Gunn assumed control of the DCEU, there has been a significant shift in the superhero landscape. Notably, Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder departed under less-than-ideal circumstances, yet their influence lingers, as evidenced by a Man of Steel reference in Blue Beetle. Snyder, in particular, played a prominent role in the DCEU, directing four films, each featuring Cavill donning the iconic Superman cape.
In an effort to express his artistic vision, which was stifled during the 2017 release of Justice League, Snyder introduced his own version of the film in 2021. Cavill characterized it as having a touch of tenderness. On the contrary, a Marvel director had an entirely different perspective on Cavill’s final appearance in the DCEU.

Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab recently shared his thoughts on Zack Snyder’s DCEU movies, particularly Cavill’s last stint in the DCU. Diab began by complimenting Gunn, calling him a “great artist” who would do remarkable work in the DCU. However, in an interview with The Cosmic Circus, Diab remarked, “Snyder’s work in all the movies he made didn’t appeal to me.” Although he found Zack Snyder’s Justice League better than its predecessor. Moreover, Snyder had opened up once about the process of giving out the best cut. Despite all of this, Snyder’s movies did not resonate with Diab.
When asked about his favorite superhero outside of the Marvel universe, Diab unequivocally named Batman as his top pick. He appreciated various takes on the character, from Christopher Nolan’s dramatic portrayal to Matt Reeves’ fresh perspective in The Batman. Diab stressed the importance of a compelling human story in superhero narratives, much like what Cavill brought to Superman in Snyder’s films.
Meanwhile, the actor behind the Man of Steel offered a distinct perspective on Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Superman himself offered high praise for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, commonly referred to as the ‘Snyder Cut.‘ This revamped version of the film was the culmination of a dedicated fan campaign. Back in 2021, Cavill expressed his genuine enjoyment of the film, describing it as a “wonderful way” for Zack Snyder to bring his unique vision of the story to audiences. He highlighted the presence of a “wonderful tenderness” in the movie, particularly in its portrayal of the iconic Superman character.
When questioned about the possibility of donning the Kryptonian cape again in the future, Cavill expressed his interest. But, he also acknowledged the intricate web of factors involved in such a decision, beyond his personal desire. Meanwhile, Snyder reflected on his experiences working on the Snyder Cut. He revealed challenges faced during the process, particularly in dealing with the studio’s decisions. Despite these obstacles, he expressed satisfaction with completing the project and bringing his vision to life.
