Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig Both Lose Out on Oscar 2024 Nomination
After raking in over a billion at the box office in 2022, Barbie failed both Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie at the 96th Oscar nominations. Neither the flick’s director nor the leading actress bagged a selection in their respective categories. However, they did receive nominations in side categories which they also served in for the hit film.
Greta Gerwig was nominated alongside her husband, Noah Baumbach, in the Adapted Screenplay category. Meanwhile, Margot Robbie earned hers as a co-producer for the movie alongside others in the Best Picture category. Still, the snub in the main categories that they served in has shocked fans.

Barbie did receive other nominations in two other main categories that might make up for the leading lady and director snub.
Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera stole the show
Besides Robbie’s stellar portrayal of the conventional Barbie, side characters played by Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera were no less noteworthy, with Gosling being touted as the highlight of the film as well. Well, the Oscars recognized their talents by nominating them for their respective supporting actor categories.
Both actors will go up against Oppenheimer’s star cast in their fight for an Oscar. Ferrara is up against Emily Blunt in her division whereas Gosling will take on Robert Downey Jr. in his. Somehow, the Oscars have brought back the Barbenheimer battle of the two movies with today’s announcements.
Here is a look at how the tug-of-war between the flicks panned out in other categories.

At this year’s Oscars, Oppenheimer has certainly won the numbers game having bagged 13 nominations across many divisions. Meanwhile, Barbie stands at a mere 6 nominations. However, the main category that counts for the most is one in which both flicks go head-to-head, Best Picture. For it, Margot Robbie’s name is still on the ballot as a co-producer.
Meanwhile, Gerwig’s nomination for Adapted Screenplay may not be as glorious as Christopher Nolan’s directing nomination, but still gives fans something to cheer the Barbie director on for. Two other categories in which these two flicks will contend together are Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
