In 1986, the original Highlander movie was estimated to have used up $16 million in funds. Now, Deadline reports that the new version with Cavill has been granted a hefty budget of $100 million to re-create the success of the original, and maybe even take it further. Under the guidance of renowned filmmaker Chad Stahelski who served as the filmmaker for the John Wick franchise, the film is believed to be in good hands.
Earlier, it was also reported that Lionsgate Studios had opened the sales for the Highlander movie at the American Film Market too. Well, considering the confidence the studio has projected with the generous budget the people that bought into those AFM shares are probably feeling relieved right now. It seems like the fantasy period piece is chalking up to be a promising flick. That is even before it begins shooting next year.
Especially since Henry Cavill will be the one headlining the movie’s cast.

Like its predecessor from decades ago, Stahelski’s Highlander will also focus on the life of a Scottish swordsman. In the original flick, Connor MacLeod who will now be portrayed by Cavill, was depicted as an immortal being who lived in New York. Well, the Man of Steel actor has spent years as the sword-wielding Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. So, the 40-year-old has plenty of practice in that arena.
Additionally, he is well versed in the realm of fantasy since he was immersed in the genre from his childhood due to his father’s obsession with it. Not to forget the physical prowess required to play the rugged character. In that area too, Cavill’s physique is one that screams ‘fitness goals’. So, although some are skeptical about the reboot, the 40-year-old may prove that he can pull off the reboot regardless.
