Like Netflix’s ‘Harry & Meghan’ the CBS Special Oprah Winfrey With the Sussex Couple, Never Stood a Chance With the Emmys
It is raining Emmys in Hollywood, but sadly the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are living through a drought. The Television Academy Awards recently let out a stellar list of nominations for the year 2022-2023. And while Netflix’s beloved royal drama series The Crown secured back-to-back episodes, Harry & Meghan failed to grab their attention. However, this is not the first snub that has disappointed the Sussex couple. The infamous Oprah Winfrey interview of 2021 also met with the same fate.
A couple of years ago, the Duke and the Duchess of Sussex sat for one of the most disgraced and frowned upon sessions in television history. The couple made tremendous waves of criticism and backlashes upon its release on CBS. While Markle’s allegations against the Windsors came unending, Prince Harry’s confirmation of them all sent shockwaves around the world. Markle, in fact, accused Britain’s royal family of raising concerns about how dark the skin of the couple’s first child would be. Along with the criticism came an overwhelming shower of support from eminent personalities and the commoners.
Despite gaining traction worldwide, the two-hour sit-down with Winfrey failed to make its space for the esteemed award show. Although nominated for the Best hosted nonfiction series category, the interview lost to an Italian cuisine culture series, reported Reuters.

The snub series seems to have continued as the duo’s other glass-breaking interview-turned-docuseries failed at the nominations.
Netflix scores a couple of Emmys for The Crown but none for Harry & Meghan
The critically acclaimed drama series that portrays the life and times of the UK Sovereigns was nominated for the Best Outstanding Drama Series of 2023. The franchise’s most liked season, season five, which rules the hearts of royal enthusiasts, has rightfully bagged the nomination. The entire season rode on Elizabeth Debicki’s coattails, who brought back the late Princess Diana through her unbelievable performance.

Meanwhile, it defeated the Sussex story of the family’s estranged members, Harry & Meghan, along the way. The docuseries, which garnered much fanfare and publicity, was nowhere to be seen on the list released by Vanity Fair. Despite being the second-most favorite royal show on Netflix, it could not bag any gongs from the Television Academy Awards.
