At a recent gathering at the Oxford Writers' House in Oxford, celebrating fantasy writing and George R.R. Martin, the American author revealed some thrilling updates about the seven new shows in development within the Game of Thrones universe. Westerosorg on X reported that Martin mentioned three being live-action and four animated. Fans were already aware of two live-action series, Aegon the Conqueror and Ten Thousand Ships, and two animated series, The Golden Empire and The Sea Snake.
In late 2023, however, Martin announced on Not A Blog that two of the animated shows had been shelved. Now, eight months later, it is unclear whether these shows have been revived—since "nothing is ever dead for good in Hollywood"—or if two new projects have replaced them. Hence, fans will have to wait for further details to fully understand the future of these developments. However, one clear thing is the new 7 shows are exempt from the House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
While George R.R. Martin’s recent teasers have generated excitement about the Game of Thrones universe, the latest leaks have also revealed one of the most intriguing characters making its way from the Game of Thrones series to House of the Dragon in the season finale.

Several scenes from the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale, set to air on August 4, leaked onto TikTok on Tuesday night. These clips feature actor and director Joshua Ben-Tovim as Brynden Rivers, also known as Bloodraven, in a vision sequence. He is shown seated on his weirwood throne as the Three-Eyed Raven, with around 30 minutes of footage surfacing. In the original Game of Thrones series, the Three-Eyed Raven was portrayed by Struan Rodger and later by the late Max von Sydow.
While the original series never explicitly explored the character, Brynden Rivers, House of the Dragon appears to be addressing that gap. Rivers, who lived several decades after the events of House of the Dragon, was a significant figure in Westeros, being the illegitimate son of Aegon IV and later serving as Hand of the King and Master of Whisperers to Aerys I. With new shows in development, there is a possibility that Rivers' appearance might be more than a one-time occurrence, as the creators could explore his character further in future projects.
