Hollywood is notorious for fan-casting. The moment makers announce a role, a movie, or an adaptation, fans are quick to pick an actor they want to see on the project. So, when Henry Cavill put down the red cape and Superman’s role was up for grabs, the fandom started their work. While they mourned the loss of the British actor’s presence in DC, they also found a candidate to play Kingdom Come’s Superman in Bruce Campbell.

Unfortunately, Campbell doesn’t quite have a shot at being the superhero because DC head James Gunn found his Superman in David Corenswet, something even Netflix celebrated. But that didn’t stop the ‘Groovy’ actor from making fans’ dreams come true…ish. The 65-year-old actor took to Twitter to share an AI-generated image of his younger self donning Superman’s iconic red-and-blue suit. But the spotlight was stolen by his hand.

Those who have dabbled in AI to create full-size images know very well that the resulting images have #superhand as Campbell tags it in his tweet. Given the technology’s inability to handle the hands, The Evil Dead actor ended up having radial hands. And Twitterati cannot let this pass without a troll or two.

Notably, this groovy post comes after a fan asked DC to contact Campbell to essay the role of an older Superman in an adaptation of DC Comics’ Kingdom Come. The chances of that ever happening were slim since the studio currently has its focus solely on Superman: Legacy and a younger Superman in Corenswet. But the Burn Notice actor humored the fan with a “DM-ing my number” tweet.

This AI version of Superman seems to be a follow-up to that and the wishes of “folks” from “back in the day,” hoping to entertain fans. And entertain he did because Twitterati can’t seem to stop laughing.

Seeing Bruce Campbell’s radial hand with seven fingers, fans are amused, terrified, and fascinated at the same time. That the reactions are diverse and trolls are plenty is an understatement when it comes to Twitter’s take on the AI image. A few of them were generous enough to help the actor fix the rendition with better AI outputs with some encouragement on the side.

Other fans, however, didn’t let this chance go to waste and trolled the actor’s AI image, with some using his iconic “Groovy” dialogue. Trolls were many but their focus was on the hands.

While many couldn’t get over the hands, a few were supportive of Campbell donning the red cape. A choice few even revealed how they envisioned him as Batman.

Superman or Batman, Campbell surely needs to work on two things: his hand and his AI skills.
