This year’s Golden Globe Awards was a starry night. Yet, the bling was missing from the star-studded affair, all thanks to Jo Koy’s unapologetic roast sessions for the celebrities. What should have been a pleasant evening of awarding honoraries turned into a platform of cold shoulder and brush-offs. Apparently, Jo Koy’s comedic parlance did not sit well with either the stars or the audience. Instead, it served as an epic reminder of the Will Smith debacle with Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars for fans worldwide.

More than often, red carpet event hosts boost up the audience engaging in laughter pills to keep the energy going throughout. However, Jo Koy, the host of the 81st Golden Globe Awards, in his attempt to take the fun factor up by a notch, failed to leave a mark. In turn, upsetting the stars and audience alike, evoked dead stares and poker faces reactions. A classic example of this could be seen in the fans’ quick-witted resort to the infamous 2022 Oscar smack by Will Smith to the host, Chris Rock.

Much like Chris Rock’s deliberate approach to the jokes, this time at the Golden Globes, Jo Koy did not succeed in hitting the laughter nod. Rather, he received a steely gaze of indifference from Taylor Swift, a weirded-out expression from Emma Stone, an awkward grin from Margot Robbie, and several more face-palm reactions. Although Jo Koy gave his explanation of the Swift situation with the justification of how he was “trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways”, the rest of the washed-out jokes were enough to keep the conflict going.

In fact, it was not just A-listers alone smirking in uneasiness. The controversy was reestablished on the online radar with reverse roast sessions for Jo Koy.

Fans revisit the celeb’s reaction to Jo Koy’s jokes in the most side-splitting way

The 2022 Oscars slap surged a meme fest on socials back in the day. Now, owing to Jo Koy’s not-so-funny jokes, the flashbacks have resurfaced. Online threads have been filling in with snaps from the celebrities’ silent retorts. Starting from their urge for Travis Kelce to channel his inner Will Smith, the range of feedback is more comical than Jo Koy’s humor game itself.

Some fans even brought in the Oppenheimer reference by Koy to focus the cast’s reaction on it. Needless to say, Christopher Nolan was only minutes away from dropping the atomic bomb with his facial expressions, as was Robert Downey Jr.

Fans also did not miss out on the Barbie cast’s response to Jo Koy’s “Barbie was based on a plastic doll with big b**bs”. While Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie flaunted a painful grin, Ryan Gosling could not help but raise his eyebrows. By all indications, it seems that although the host fell many ways short in enchanting the audience with his witty takes, the fans succeeded in entertaining the social media sphere with no-holds-barred Jo Koy roasts.
