There have been multiple costume designers in the 2023 TV series who helped the leads, Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston shine on screen. This includes costume designer Debra McGuire, who has been working with the Emmy award-winning actress for over thirty years. They met on the sets of Friends and extended their collaboration to the premises of Mimi Leder. During an interview with Harpers Bazaar, McGuire revealed that they stole from Aniston’s closet to create the amazing wardrobe of The Morning Show.
When asked whether any of the actors wanted to steal from the show’s wardrobe, the designer said, “We don’t have that situation”. McGuire then went on to say that they stole “from Jen’s closet than Jen would steal from us”. She also shared how the Murder Mystery actress would give her own input during the costume fitting, which they did at the actress’ house. Admiring her fashion choices, she also revealed how Aniston “never had it wrong” on red carpets.
The costume designer has always been a great fan of Aniston’s fashion choices. No wonder the duo gave some major 90s aesthetics back in Friends.

McGuire worked throughout the ten seasons of the NBC sitcom, to make the show a “visual candy”. During a 2019 interview with Entertainment, the designer shared how she was not interested in fashion as much as she came from a fine arts background. She also dhared how she never planned to make the show a hub for fashion inspiration and her focus always to “really support the characters of who they are”.
She tried to coordinate Rachel Green’s outfits with her storyline and started off with a more refined palette at the beginning of the show. And then after a point when reality hit the spoilt girl, McGuire made “these choices become hers, not just something you could buy at Bergdorf Goodman”. From printed aprons to tiny tops and skirts, they put their best foot forward in making the character look adorable in her workplace. And then, after Rachel joined Bloomingdales, McGuire opted for more sophisticated styling that could complement her corporate fashion.
