Jennifer Aniston Once Revealed the Story Behind the ‘Friends’ “group huddle”
Over the years, Jennifer Aniston has given fans more and more insights into her time on the NBC sitcom, Friends. She has opened up about everything from her favorite character on the show to her favorite side actor who came in. However, there was one thing that seemed to slip under the radar, it was the story of how the cast shooting tradition came to be.
While most of her memories are fondly recalled, she once shared the rather gruesome story about why the cast followed the ritual of doing a “group huddle” on the set of the show.

Back in 2021, Jennifer Aniston ended up sitting down with Access Hollywood to discuss the then-upcoming Friends reunion. During the interview, she was joined by Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, who were also a part of the main cast. The interviewer began the conversation by asking them about the “group huddle,” which was when Aniston ended up revealing that it was not always a ritual until something went wrong on set.
She said that Matt Leblanc’s “arm fell off.” The actress was referring to when the actor had ended up dislocating his arm on set. However, it was not until later that they realized that the only thing different about the day was the fact that they had not done their ritual. While the Joey actor healed up well, the members refused to risk it again and chose to make it a tradition.
While everyone knew that the 6 members had a pre-show ritual, it was not until Lisa Kudrow shared more details about it that fans realized how close they were.

On the show, fans saw Lisa Kudrow’s Pheobe struggle as she carried triplets for her brother. However, during that whole fourth season, the actress was pregnant. The triplet storyline only came in as a way to accommodate the star. While the writers went above and beyond for her, the 5 cast mates, Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and Courteney Cox, also switched up their huddle routine.
In their normal routine, the Friends cast would tell each other to “have a good show” and remind everyone that they were loved. However, once Kudrow got pregnant, their ritual got another layer. Apart from their good luck wishes and love for each other, they also ended up throwing in a little “love you, little Julien” to include her unborn child.
