Jennifer Aniston and her comedy timing is popularly known and needs no long-winded explanation. While she excels in various genres, something she wants the industry to wake up and give her due to, her flawless comedic timing, especially evident in live TV shows like Friends, is no easy feat to pull off. What is even better is her respect for the genre and the people who have made it what it is. The laughter this week faded as the world bid adieu to Richard Lewis, a titan of comedy whose wit brought joy to countless souls.

Jennifer Aniston, in a touching tribute to the comedian’s legacy, recalled the most unforgettable episode of Lewis’ show today.

Richard Lewis, the comedic genius known for his role in Curb Your Enthusiasm alongside Larry David, passed away on Tuesday night at his Los Angeles residence at the age of 76 due to a heart attack, as confirmed by Variety. In tribute to the comedian, Aniston shared a clip on her Instagram story featuring Richard Lewis’ humorous exchange with Larry David in the episode Ben Laden from Curb Your Enthusiasm. Aniston captioned her story saying, “RIP Richard“, with a sweet white heart emoji.

Lewis had disclosed last April that he was battling Parkinson’s disease and retiring from stand-up comedy. Last year, he also made headlines when he revealed his decision not to join Season 11 of the popular show to focus on recovering from three surgeries. Despite his decision, he made a memorable comeback for one episode. While Lewis’s comedic influence remains strong, there is a growing unease among comedians of his time, including Aniston, about the changing dynamics in the genre since the 2000s.

Jennifer Aniston, while promoting Murder Mystery 2 in Paris last year, opened up about the challenges comedians face in creating humor. She emphasized how comedy is about people laughing at themselves and poking fun at life. However, nowadays, it is impossible to joke about something without the worry in the back of one’s mind of offending someone.

Aniston looked back at the old times when they would just bust a gut over any funny joke instead of taking it personally. It was all about schooling society, and the real key was realizing just how absurd people could be.
