Jason Bateman and Friends Get Real About Anxieties, Addictions and More in a Friendly Talk to Blame It All on Carrot Cakes
Hollywood’s slippery slope demands artists be forged in iron, with a healthy dose of humor as their trusty sidekick. Since the spotlight’s constant glare can be exhausting, downtime becomes a precious commodity for stars worldwide. But anxiety has a way of ambushing even the best-laid plans, ensuring equal ripple effects for A-listers and commoners. Jason Bateman and his A-list peers recently shared their struggles with anxiety, highlighting the limitations of backup plans.
In a clever defection and a plot twist worthy of Tinseltown’s breadwinners, they, however, pinned the blame on a sweet culprit: the carrot cake.

On a recent episode of the Smartless podcast, Jason Bateman with his co-hosts Sean Hayes and Will Arnett got candid about their unfounded anxieties. The conversation began with the trio taking a jab at Hayes for pulling up late, followed by an exchange about how they have been. While Hayes was a little taken aback with the curious ask, Arnett shared having woken up with a “general anxiety” for reasons neither could not pinpoint.
As he went on to explain the contrast, Arnette revealed about having taken the entire day to get to the roots of it. The trio asked whether he still feels the same, and upon his partial nod, Bateman added he knows the reason why. Apparently, Netflix’s fan-favorite actor felt similarly the previous day and held none other than “sugar” guilty of charge. “We had that f--king carrot cake, and God was it good, and I was a disaster yesterday,” he said.
While the trio may have agreed on a singular culprit this time, Netflix subscribers held only Jason Bateman guilty because of the anxiety he instilled in the feel-good moments of festive fervor with his Christmas flick, Carry-On.
Was Jason Bateman’s Carry-On a deliberate festive choice?
In an interview with the New York Times, writer T.J. Fixman explained that setting the record-breaking Netflix flick, Carry-On, starring Jason Bateman during the Christmas slate of releases was indeed an intended choice. Airports often induce anxiety where people are always on their toes and this tense backdrop helped convey that feeling to create a thrilling and gripping narrative the audiences can relate to.

The film’s airport landscape tuned into the perfect holiday watch since holidays are traditionally the time people pack their bags to return home. As fans warmed up in their seats, the stress and chaos of traveling were justifiably captured. “The airport is the place you suffer through to get to the place you want to be,” Fixman noted. Of course, there was no carrot cake to take the blame on Christmas, but knowing Bateman, he would have compensated it with a plum cake, nevertheless.
