James Gunn Sets the Records Straight Regarding Major Rumors Swirling Around His ‘Superman: Legacy’

Henry Cavill‘s decision not to return as Superman deeply disappointed fans. However, with the successful track record of Gunn’s Marvel films, fans are now starting to put their trust in the new DCU CEO. Recently, James Gunn debunked one floating speculation, suggesting the collaboration of one of the alums from MCU in Superman: Legacy.

One of the very recent speculations surrounding Superman: Legacy suggested that longtime James Gunn collaborator, Michael Rooker, could join the cast as General Sam Lane. After a lot of chatter, Gunn set the records straight on this particular speculation. Anthonybeltre123 asked Gunn on Threads about the credibility of the rumor suggesting Rooker’s role in the movie. To which the 57-year-old filmmaker replied, “It is not” true.
The makers confirmed the collaboration of a few actors in the upcoming release as of now. David Corenswet would step into the shoes of Henry Cavill as the next Superman. Meanwhile, Skyler Gisondo would portray the pal of Clark Kent, Jimmy Olsen. Nicholas Hoult and Sara Sampaio also snagged roles in the movie as Lex Luthor and Eve Tessmacher, respectively. Additionally, actors from a popular franchise of the MCU are also entering the DCU universe.
The American filmmaker and studio executive, James Gunn, shed light on the rumors regarding Marvel actors joining DCU while replying to a comment on X, formerly Twitter.

James Gunn’s last movie in MCU as a filmmaker was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which received highly favorable reviews from fans. Gunn once confirmed that cast members from the franchise would be joining Superman: Legacy. However, he did not clarify who or how many actors one could anticipate. When a fan asked him on X about “any cast member for [Guardians of the Galaxy]” being part of the Superman: Legacy cast, Gunn simply replied with a “Yes”.
Now that the Hollywood strikes have come to an end, fans can expect more revelations regarding the cast of Superman: Legacy. Gunn himself confirmed on threads that he would be unveiling the faces of his cast for the 2025 movie “as soon as the strike ends”. While it is unknown who exactly is coming on board from Guardians of the Galaxy, it is certainly not Michael Rooker.
