James Gunn’s ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Teaser Echoes ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’s’ Most Important Theme
The world of comic books spanning DC and Marvel adaptations fits the “so close yet so far” adage all too well. Superheroes and villains who almost mirror each other do not exactly keep comic masterminds up at night. But the idea of shared themes and overlapping storylines between universes is not off the table. And James Gunn’s latest teaser for Peacemaker season 2 feels like it snagged a page right out of the core of Guardians of the Galaxy, making it nearly impossible to ignore.
It looks like Gunn is out being his own muse across DC and Marvel like a one-man crossover squad bridging the opposing universes.
Does James Gunn’s Peacemaker season 2 really borrow from Guardians of the Galaxy?

HBO Max recently released the first teaser for the second installment of James Gunn’s Peacemaker, releasing in 2025. In the seconds-long snippet for DCEU’s superhero series, A.R.G.U.S agents, including John Cena’s Peacemaker, Danielle Brooks’ Adebayo, Chukwudi Iwuji’s Clemson Murn, Jennifer Holland’s Leota Adebayo, and Steve Agee’s Economus are seen raising a toast to Christopher’s lines, “No matter how far where we are from each other, no one will ever break us apart.”
The lines are iterated over a sequence shift switching with the blink-and-miss scenes of each agent preparing to fight. The teaser’s dialog hints at a possible dive into the found family theme—a makeshift family dynamic similar to what Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is built on. If Gunn is all about poetic justice, the fleeting scenes zooming in on the wildly different A.R.G.U.S agents, ending with a toast to their unity and loyalty, make a compelling case for Peacemaker treading the lines of the Guardians.
While this connection may be far-fetched coming from a seconds-long snippet, if it does actually turn out to be true, piecing together Peacemaker’s season end should not be as difficult, especially since Gunn's DC reign had high hopes after his Marvel journey.
Peacemaker vs. Guardians of the Galaxy: A James Gunn conclusion
James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy centers on the idea of a found family and concludes with personal redemption. Characters who start out as misfits and outcasts come together despite their visible differences and troublesome pasts. It is ultimately the bond that gives them the strength to see more than their personal struggles, redefining the idea of friendship, family, sacrifice, and trust as a whole.

With the latest teaser of Gunn’s Peacemaker, his squad dynamics could drive the story further, having already explored the themes of teamwork, loyalty, and redemption. And if this DC shoe fits the Marvel sock, Peacemaker may end with a group of great friends who become family by the end of the second installment. So, it is possible that Gunn is steering Christopher toward the path of peace, much like he did with the Guardians since the value-making theme is definitely close to his heart.
