James Gunn recently revealed to Collider there is no set timeline for The Batman II since the focus is on ensuring they have a story worth telling. He admitted the script has yet to be ready, though, there is no rush. Following his confessions, a fan on Instagram Threads called the “Reevesverse” nothing more than myth, claiming there is no script in reality. A DC fan tagged Gunn to inspect the real truth, and the DC steward simply suggested avoiding any “rando on social networking.”
While Gunn never talked about The Batman II’s cancelation in his interviews, he nevertheless addressed the rumor mill for fans. Calling himself “one of the biggest cheerleaders” of Matt Reeves, Gunn admitted he has been waiting enthusiastically on The Batman II script. However, negating the fan theories entirely, Gunn explained the fans would know if the project was canceled because no one has the time for “charades.”
Although it is hard to say when The Batman II will be released, Gunn’s insights helped answer when Bruce Wayne will first appear in the reimagined DC Universe.
James Gunn talks about Batman’s appearance in DC Universe
In his conversation with Collider, James Gunn revealed that the re-imagination of the DC Universe depends heavily on the writers. According to Gunn, several projects are in the works that have either been green-lit or are on the verge of getting one. But all of them, including The Batman II depend on the “story” the writers bring. “Once the Brave and the Bold gets to that point, then we’ll make the movie,” Gunn said of The Batman II while confirming the superhero’s appearance in the former.

The film, directed by Andy Muschietti, is set to offer a different iteration of Batman, which will also differ variably from Matt Reeves’ series. But until the script is ready, neither will come to the forefront for the audience. Gunn’s approach proves there is room for more than one Batman without any cape-clashing drama. And with hopes of Reeves reuniting with Greig Fraser, it is no wonder fans are caught off-guard by sneaky rumors as they eagerly await the dawn of the darkest of night.
