In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), a fan page posted a picture of an exchange between James Gunn and a DCU fan. The picture shows Gunn addressing a concerned fan’s questions about whether upcoming projects would match the style and tone of Suicide Squad and Pacemaker Season 1. While no one expected the director to reply, he put the fan’s worries to rest by revealing that the tone and style would “shift from project to project” and would give fans a new superhero landscape.
The Guardians of the Galaxy director also claimed that each project would “reflect the unique sensibilities of the filmmakers involved.” With a promise like that, he only increased the excitement that the fandom felt. Although the 57-year-old’s response sent fans into a frenzy, the world has still not completely gotten over his removal of Henry Cavill from his iconic Superman role.
In fact, while the world was still reeling from that change, James Gunn ended up dropping more beloved actors from the gigantic franchise.
James Gunn’s total rebrand of DCU
Even though the director may have broken a few hearts when he dropped Henry Cavill from the DCU, he did the same thing again. Earlier this month, it was revealed that none of Zack Snyder’s DC cast would be reprising their roles. With DCU chapter one marking the end of Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman, fans were thrown when the same was revealed for Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman.

Although there was no mention of whether a few of the stars would be making their way back to the franchise under a new guise, some fans are still holding out hope. In fact, with Jason Momoa in talks of becoming Wolverine, there is a huge possibility that this might not be the final goodbye from the superhero world. Meanwhile, there are a few other DCU stars who have kept their roles and are said to make an appearance in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy alongside David Corenswet.
