The 19th-century star, Elvis Presley, is, once again, back with another story told by Sofia Coppola. The King of Rock and Roll gave inspiration for the upcoming film, Priscilla. Regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century, Elvis Presley contributed to the transformative era. He received great success, along with initial controversies, for his creative contribution. Now, Jacob Elordi will portray the character of this legendary artist in the upcoming flick, leaving fans stunned.
Recently, A24 dropped the trailer for Priscilla, showing Sofia Coppola’s take on Priscilla Presley’s life with the rock ‘n’ roll superstar. Cailee Spaeny will portray the lead character of the superstar’s wife with the Euphoria star set to play Elvis Presley. The film is based on Priscilla Presley’s memoir, Elvis and Me (1985). The trailer of the film hinted the story will look at Presley’s troubled married life with Elvis.

When she got married to the superstar, she was just 21 and her husband was 32. However, they parted ways in 1973. As the trailer indicated, Priscilla Presley yearned for her own life, and the film will trace her story. Notably, this is not the first time Elvis Presley’s story inspired an adaptation. Last year, Baz Luhrmann also created a beautiful film, Elvis that starred Austin Butler as the titular character.
Butler even received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the Memphis legend. While he certainly won fans’ hearts, the recent adaptation seems to be having a different effect on fans’ hearts.
Fans are divided between Jacob Elordi and Austin Butler’s Elvis Presley portrayals
With the release of the trailer of Priscilla, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their opinions of both actors. A handful of fans were in awe of Elordi’s performance as Elvis and ditched Butler’s version. They loved how the Australian actor almost looked like the classic singer.
Austin Butler really wasted 3+ years of his life cosplaying Elvis just for a year later Jacob Elordi come and do a better accent and better performance in general than he did https://t.co/AODfarALUc

And not to mention, Jacob Elordi actually resembles Elvis' physique like 😭

Ooo this looks so good! Like finally they're not overly glamorizing him and pretending he was perfect!

On the other hand, fans defended Austin Butler’s performance in last year’s film. Although they were happy to see the 2 Hearts (which is available on Netflix) actor, fans pointed out it was not as good as Butler’s flick.
Imagine they had cast Austin Butler again. This could've been the Elvis Cinematic Universe

just wanted to point out that in Elvis, he actually did the performances and sung all the songs, and it was based on his life not centered around Priscilla and their love story. Also the depth to which Austin portrays the pain Elvis went through throughout the movie is unmatched

This might be the craziest tweet I’ve read this year. There’s no world where Elordi can give a better performance than Austin Butler. It’s not even close

Austin actually did a pretty authentic portrayal of Elvis. (took the method acting a bit far but he did the role justice) The directing and editing of the movie just butchered it.
I just don't feel like all the criticism he gets is warranted

Moreover, some of them also pointed out the movie was not even out yet. It would be wrong to judge the actor’s performance just by looking at the trailer as well.
Based on a trailer? Maybe watch the film first.

Notably, both films have a different story to tell. Butler’s film was about the singer’s life, whereas Elordi’s film is going to be about his wife. Despite the differences, fans are eager to watch Priscilla on November 3, 2023.
