In 2021, a group of six on-screen and real-life friends came together for the infamous Friends Reunion. When the cast members sat in the chairs for filming, it reminded Matt LeBlanc of one of their memorable episodes. He brought up season 2 episode 15, where his character Joey Tribbiani surprised Chandler Bing with new recliners to make up for the stolen furniture. The episode showed how the best friend duo did not move from the Barcalounger for days. This storyline was a massive hit among fans, but Perry was not a fan of this idea.
During the reunion, when both Matthew Perry and LeBlanc sat on the recliners, LeBlanc shared how the 17 Again actor did not like the idea of them sticking to those recliners. “Do you remember the beginning of the week after the table draft? You came to me and you go, ‘It’s so stupid!'” he said to Perry. Due to its simplistic plot device, the 54-year-old did not approve of it in the beginning. On the other hand, LeBlanc found it quite brilliant and insisted that they could have fun with this.
Eventually, Matthew Perry ended up liking it when the shooting was done, and “You have a Cheeto on your face, man“ became one of the funniest scenes. However, this was certainly not the first time the American star had a problem with details in the show. In fact, he wanted producers to change one aspect of his iconic character.

In 2022, Matthew Perry came out with his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing. In the book, he made many honest revelations about his career and life. One of those secrets centered around his fan-favorite character, Chandler Bing. The actor wrote he hated the way his character emphasized certain words in the first five seasons of the show. He claimed he even “had to beg the producers” to change this style.
This stressing on the words thing annoyed Perry so much that he thought he would explode if he did it even one more time. So he decided to say the lines normally in the upcoming seasons to save his sanity. Well, no matter how he changed his stance, fans have continued to love his witty jokes and they still do.
