“It’s oddly mechanical” – How Jake Gyllenhaal Spilled Beans on Love Scenes With Jennifer Aniston Back in 2021
Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal have formed a special friendship in the past decades. The duo always had that natural chemistry and looked like this well-suited couple whenever they stepped on screen together. It is quite astounding considering both of them have never dated each other. And this question might have crossed their fans’ minds about how they managed to showcase that chemistry when they had no entanglements. Well, the American actor once spilled beans about his intimate scenes with his costar and friend.
Back in 2021, Jake Gyllenhaal did a virtual interview with the host of The Howard Stern Show. During the interview, the actor also talked about shooting love scenes with Aniston in The Good Girl. He revealed it was difficult for him to film it since he already had a crush on the actress. The 42-year-old first saw the Emmy winner on the 90s sitcom Friends and was left fascinated by her charms.

He continued these intimate scenes are nothing like what people get to watch because the people in the room make the experience far less personal. “Most of the time, it’s oddly mechanical, right? And also, it’s a dance, like, you choreograph it for a camera,” stated the 42-year-old. So for him, these scenes are just like one of these fight scenes where he tries his best to present something powerful.
Not to mention, Gyllenhaal’s Emmy-winning costar also made things look graceful when they played two lovers in the comedy-drama. The actress brought this perfect technique that added a little separation and discretion between them.

While talking to Howard Stern, Jake Gyllenhaal also recalled how Jennifer Aniston came up with an amazing idea to buffer love scenes. He praised the Murder Mystery star for putting a pillow between them before they started shooting the scenes. The 54-year-old knew that both of them might feel uncomfortable. So she introduced the “pillow technique” to ensure nothing disturbed them while they played their parts.
Well, this was certainly not the first time Aniston dealt with a crush that might have affected her work life. She and her costar David Schwimmer had a crush on each other in the initial days of Friends. So the duo channeled those feelings into the roles instead of taking them forward in their personal lives.
