"It's not about nothing"- Charlamagne Tha God Calls Out 'Deadpool & Wolverine' for Its Gimmicks
Deadpool & Wolverine has broken multiple records this year. Not to say that this was unexpected, but their billion-dollar success has officially revived Marvel Studios after a string of box-office disasters. Nonetheless, much like any other movie, Deadpool & Wolverine is not without flaws. Since its release, many critics have pointed out the makers' attempt to make the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starter movie as flashy and star-studded as possible, even though many of them did not necessarily lead to anything substantial.
Charlamagne tha God has also weighed in now and raised questions about whether Deadpool & Wolverine truly deserve the hype.

Charlamagne tha God shared his take on the hype surrounding Deadpool & Wolverine during his Brilliant Idiots podcast with Andrew Schulz. The radio host criticized the 2024 blockbuster for its jumbled universe filled with variants and tangled timelines. According to Charlamagne, nowadays in the MCU, anyone “can die and just come back as others.” He also pointed out that “Deadpool & Wolverine wasn't attached to nothing” and were seemingly added in forcefully. So, even though the movie was “enjoyable,” it felt like "it's not about nothing".
The conversation around Deadpool & Wolverine, be it positive or negative, has been mainly about the cameos. From Jennifer Garner’s Elektra and Henry Cavill’s Wolverine to Channing Tatum’s Gambit, it was packed with both predictable and unpredictable appearances that had the audience roaring in the theaters. However, there were also some special appearances that did not make the cut, including Rob McElhenney.
Ryan Reynolds recently shared how terrible he felt about having to cut his friend's cameo from the final cut of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Rob McElhenney, a close friend and business partner of Ryan Reynolds, was set to play a Time Variance Authority soldier in Deadpool & Wolverine. McElhenney traveled all the way to London to film his scene for the 2024 film. However, since the sequence did not turn out as hoped, McElhenney’s cameo was cut from the movie. Reynolds mentioned on Instagram that he “had to kill a darling” with this cut.
Reynolds went on to say how “expectations” can be the most stressful part of making a film but having loved ones like McElhenney to lean on made it easier. There were other cameos fans were looking forward to but did not make the final cut. Despite some criticism and disappointment with the movie, Deadpool & Wolverine certainly revived the MCU and opened doors for endless possibilities in the franchise.
