“It’s a crime”- Disney Swapping Beau DeMayo for a New Head Writer Deeply Angers Fan
Beau DeMayo has been a regular at Marvel. The writer and producer was crucial in bringing to life many of its live-action series, including Moon Knight and the upcoming vampire thriller Blade. However, nothing has truly won over fans like his work on X-Men ’97. Just a few weeks back, DeMayo had finished up the writing duties for season two of X-Men ’97, was arranging press, prepping for the show’s Hollywood premiere on March 13, and even brainstorming some loose ideas for a third season with his team.
It seems, though, that despite his efforts and key role in making X-Men ’97 such a success, Marvel has parted ways with Beau DeMayo. As The Hollywood Reporter had informed, DeMayo’s company email was cut off. In fact, the writer's Instagram account, once the hub for X-Men updates, was deleted too. Marvel Animation head Brad Winderbaum, in a recent discussion with Entertainment Weekly, mentioned that they are going to bring on a "new head writer for Season 3" while still sticking to "Beau's ideas for the second season."

Even the ex-showrunner has shared his thoughts on Marvel’s decision and clarified his role in Season 2. In a tweet responding to fans' questions following the X-Men '97 Season 1 finale, DeMayo explained that while he wrote “a lot” of Season 2, he will not be heavily involved in its production. DeMayo's exit from X-Men '97 was announced before the first season even premiered on Disney+. And the fact that no reason was ever given for the split left many fans stunned and taken aback.
Fans rushed to X to voice their outrage over this decision and slammed Disney for parting ways with Beau DeMayo.
Fans unleashed their fury on Disney for changing X-Men ‘97's Beau DeMayo
Beau DeMayo has been active on social media throughout the successful first season of X-Men '97. He offered insights on several plot twists, including the fate of The Avengers and Deadpool during the earth-shattering events the X-Men face. Recently, he has also teased a potential romantic storyline between Morph and Wolverine. And it looks like fans are not ready to let go of the showrunner who was so heavily invested in X-Men '97.
Some were pleased, though, that Disney was still honoring the writer’s ideas.
At the same time, some fans had already foreseen the downfall of the X-Men ’97 franchise.
