The saying “home is where the heart is,” dates back to the first century, however, you will find proof of its validity in almost every other step you take. This is true for Will Smith, who, since the beginning of his career, established himself as quite the family man. The difference, however, was that owing to him being a superstar on screen, Smith became the family man to those who trusted in him to guarantee a cinema experience to be cherished as a family heirloom. But in the rush of giving Men In Black 2 to those who were awestruck by Men In Black among other franchises, Will Smith’s own family became “miserable.”

The family of the Academy-winning actor was always idolized. It is all in the Smith blood; they used to say. However, in a 2020 interview with Jay Shetty, Will Smith revealed that at the highest stage of his career, his family life touched rock bottom.

To make matters worse, he did not know what he was doing wrong. It was a result of growing up with a father who had a milliary mindset. But because home is where the heart is, his kids helped him fix his home, heart, and ultimately, his mindset.

The mindset that Will Smith talks about inheriting from his father is one where in the pursuit of achieving what you want, you fail to pay heed to anybody else’s feelings. He felt this lonely success in the form of having one of the greatest runs in Hollywood history at a time when his family could not be more disappointed.

“It was really my kids,” Smith says about what ultimately opened his eyes to the fact that others have feelings. And since then, it has been one wholesome father’s day post after another from his kids.

This is also true for the Academy winner’s other kids. Even though the Fresh Prince had Trey Smith with his first wife, the two share a very tight bond. Even after all these years, you can catch the actor getting teary-eyed watching his kids perform at Coachella.
