In the various candid confessions that Sydney Sweeney has made ever since her rise to popularity, she missed the part about her taking the ‘dumb blonde’ stereotype personally. Known for versatility, there is one act that seamlessly connects every performance of the actress and it is the part where she stomps on the dumb blonde narrative. And she is not breaking this habit even in her Marvel debut with Madame Web. In her recent interview with Variety, Sydney Sweeney said, “I think it’s different from what people expect a superhero movie to be,” when inquired about Madame Web.
The world has by now become accustomed to the ‘not like other girls’ trope’ but to see it play out in a multi-million dollar Marvel project, as Sweeney has hinted, will mark a first.
Sweeney’s words get more weight when you look at the recent releases from the Spider-Man Universe. With each addition, the spider-verse is spreading its web across every universe. But with the ongoing strikes, fans wonder when the Sydney Sweeney superhero movie will reach the screens.

Sony superhero movies like Madame Web are no strangers to hurdles when it comes to production. Sydney Sweeney’s “different” superhero movie has been in the works since 2019. It went into the hands of Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama to draft out a script, but that is where updates halted for months.
It was not until 2022 that the movie made some progress as Dakota Johnson secured the lead role. Fortunately, all went smoothly afterward and Madame Web wrapped up filing in eight months. Filming may have been quick, but the same cannot be said about the premiere. Madame Web is among the movies slate for a February 2024 release date. Coincidentally, that is also the predicted time till which the strikes may go on for.
