When Sony decided to tangle with Spidey’s web and spin off a series of superhero films starring Miles Morales, fans were all in from the get-go. The legendary deal with Marvel Studios helped bust through the first roadblock, bringing Spidey into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but when Sony built its spider-webbed universe, the hype really picked up with the animated trilogy. While the first movie was adequate, the sequel saw the heights of success, leaving fans on the edge of their seats for Beyond the Spider-Verse until the final production hit a rough patch, with rumors flying about cancellations and scrapped plans.

For anyone out of the loop, here is a breakdown of the hits Beyond the Spider-Verse is taking.

Fans awaiting the epic conclusion to Miles Morales’ journey in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, there is a mix of good and bad news. The bad? According to a fresh report from industry insider Jeff Sneider, the movie might not swing into theaters until 2027. Part of the delay goes to Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man 4 crowding the schedule. However, the real kicker is the studio has reportedly scrapped a lot of the film's current content, citing a major creative overhaul.

Though the delays might have fans feeling a bit bummed, the bright side is Beyond the Spider-Verse is still officially a go! The writers are reportedly “relieved” for the extra time to do justice to Miles Morales' story. While the disappointment will not slide just this soon, the major concern is this is not the first time the film has hit the brakes.

After Across the Spider-Verse swung into theaters in 2023, rumors about tough working conditions stirred up the pot, which played a part in pushing the third movie from its original March 2024 release date.

Beyond the Spider-Verse will pick up where Across the Spider-Verse left everyone hanging, but before it can address the audience's burning questions, it has plenty of its own challenges to tackle. After the sequel’s 2023 release, rumors of production hiccups and delays swirled around the final film. Phil Lord and Chris Miller even told ComicBook.com that their priority was to get the movie right, not to stick to a specific release date.

Miller even doubled down, saying they will refrain from rushing things to meet a deadline. Their comments made it clear the final chapter would not follow anyone’s rules—except for its own—to ensure it becomes the blockbuster fans deserve and maybe not mirror the Oscar snub of its predecessor. So while it might take some patience to come to terms with the delay, the likelihood that Beyond the Spider-Verse will hit all the right notes could help fans keep their web-shooters on standby a little longer.
