It has almost been a decade since Millie Bobby Brown graced the Netflix screen to show the world what an Eleven out of ten looks like. Although Brown is currently one of the hottest Hollywood tickets, a director’s favorite on every wish list, to assume that she has had it easy given her early roots in Tinseltown would be rather far-fetched. Despite the highlights of showbiz and the diminishing gap between the mundane and the magnificent, to know a star inch by inch is akin to finding a diamond in the rough.

While much has been talked about the trailblazer who made Netflix the biggest stepping stone of her career, here is a lesser-known condition Brown suffers from in hearing that they might not know about.

In a candid conversation with Variety back in 2017, the then-rising Netflix star, Millie Bobby Brown, shared that she was born with partial loss of hearing. However, after years of tubes, her hearing faded away entirely. As a result, Brown cannot fully hear herself perform, but that has no shortcomings in her dreams. According to the Stranger Things actor, she took baby steps with singing, and primarily by not giving a damn if she did not sound good enough.

One does not have to be an expert at singing, dancing or even acting for a matter of fact as long as you like it and it brings you peace, Brown believes. If either of those things brings enjoyment, no one should have the potential to hinder that delight. Similarly, Brown has never been trained in acting or singing, but over work obligations, she has to do both despite being completely deaf in one of the ears.

At times like this, the actor makes use of her other senses as she did in Stranger Things season 1.

How did Millie Bobby Brown’s hearing loss impact Stranger Things season 1?

Millie Bobby Brown gave a very emotional graduation speech following the wrap-up of Stranger Things after a decade of vanquishing demogorgons in Upside Down. However, when she was just getting started with the first of the five remaining seasons, her vocabulary was quite limited. According to Variety citing a word count by a fan, Brown’s dialogue amounted to less than 250 words, but that was far from intimidating to the star.

Although being deaf in one ear should play as a disadvantage since any good story runs on communication, Brown was not scared of the non-verbal role. In fact, she said, “you can talk with your face.” While Brown understood the easiness of someone summoning their emotions through words, she did not see a daunting task to translate the same with just her face. Not many may have known about the condition, but even the acknowledgment is enough proof that no matter what, some names are written in the stars.
