Is Greta Gerwig a Nepotism Baby? Revealing the Truth of Her Massive Success
At one point in time, stars made it into Hollywood solely because of their talents and skills. However, for years now, nepotism has seemed to replace the need for a talent pool. While some stars like Bella Hadid, Miley Cyrus, Sofia Coppola, and more have secured their spots, there has been some doubt about Barbie director, Greta Gerwig. Although she might have made it to the big leagues with the Margot Robbie film, she has also worked on or in about 26 other films.

Greta Gerwig might have broken the glass ceiling with her eye-opening film, Barbie. However, she came from rather humble beginnings. With her mother, Christine Gerwig, being a nurse, and her father, Gordon Gerwig, a financial consultant and computer programmer, her love for the arts came from within. While her parents may not have had a penchant for the fine arts, their daughter surely did. Although she initially wanted to go to college and become a playwright, that plan did not work out.
Instead, in 2006, after the now 40-year-old had graduated from New York’s Barnard College, she made her debut in Joe Swanberg’s film LOL. Since then Gerwig managed to build her name in the film industry before she realized that directing and writing could be her forte. Although the fame may have come out of nowhere for the mom of two, her love for the world of performance was evident with her little part-time theatre shows back in college.
While Gerwig’s name had stayed under the radar until Barbie took over the world, the director had been putting in the work for years before she finally had her “I made it” moment.

Last year, Greta Gerwig took over the world with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling’s Barbie. While the film sent shockwaves through the world, it was not the first time that the 40-year-old’s work had blown up. She had managed to reach similar amounts of success with a few of her other directed films. In 2017 and 2019, the talented director stunned fans with the films Lady Bird and Little Women.
Gerwig even landed a Golden Globe nomination for the Screenplay of a Motion Picture for Lady Bird. However, she unfortunately missed out on bagging the award. Recently, the director faced another snub as she and Robbie failed to bag an Oscar nod for their work on Barbie.
