According to a source via Page Six, AMC Lincoln Square in New York City organized a special late-night screening of The Odyssey for Tom Cruise on Wednesday, July 15. Theatre executives and personnel eagerly anticipated the arrival of the star on Wednesday night. However, an unexpected thunderstorm delayed his arrival in Manhattan. He arrived at the venue long after the initial presentation had concluded.
The studio organized an immediate private re-screening, but Cruise refused to watch the three-hour masterpiece alone. He rounded up every custodian sweeping floors and employee restocking concession stands to watch the film alongside him. This spontaneous gesture completely stunned the staff, turning a late shift into a historic private event.

Tom Cruise also uploaded a photograph with his ticket stub to congratulate Christopher Nolan, producer Emma Thomas, and the ensemble cast. He praised the technical achievement on his X account, writing that it was an amazing night in a movie theatre.
“Wow! To Chris, Emma, and ALL of your brilliant cast and crew. Thank you for an amazing night in a movie theatre. I can’t wait to see it again!” he wrote of the private screening reported by Page Six.
This heartwarming event continues a long tradition of the actor supporting major blockbusters in theatres.
A consistent history of supporting Christopher Nolan's grand visions
Tom Cruise routinely utilizes his massive public platform to encourage audiences to view grand spectacles on premium large-format screens. His actions consistently demonstrate a deep respect for fellow filmmakers, especially Christopher Nolan's work. He has previously appreciated Tenet.
In August 2020, Tom Cruise wore a mask, visited a crowded London cinema, and filmed his candid reactions while watching Tenet. The 34-second video shared on Cruise’s X account shows Cruise masked in a car, arriving at the cinema, a large Tenet poster, theatre seating, the film starting, and his post-screening comments praising the big-screen return amid pandemic reopenings.

“Big Movie. Big Screen. Loved it,” he captioned it. The superstar repeated this supportive exhibition strategy in June 2023 ahead of the massive Barbenheimer cultural phenomenon. He shared a photograph of himself holding tickets to Nolan’s movie. He stated on his X account that he could not be more excited to see the project on the big screen.
“I love a double feature, and it doesn't get more explosive (or more pink) than one with Oppenheimer and Barbie,” he captioned. By inviting the local theatre staff into his private screening for The Odyssey, Tom Cruise proved that his love for cinema is rooted in celebrating the everyday workers who make the theatrical experience possible.
