When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle packed up and moved out of their home in England, their next stop became Markle’s home country. In the affluent neighborhood of Montecito, the Sussexes found a home away from home. After being long-bothered by intrusive media, their first priority was their privacy. So, they shelled out millions for a lush property that could promise them just that. Not to forget all the luxurious settings that come included in their secluded hillside home.

Here is a peek into the abode and what makes the bricks-and-mortar structure their ‘home’.

With nine bedrooms and sixteen bathrooms, one can imagine the sheer size of the structure that the Sussexes live in. Additionally, it also features a space for the two to work from home which was glimpsed in the Heart of Invictus series. The lobby of their house is fashioned in neutral tones with a stone fireplace that could be spotted in a video she appeared in.

Besides the eye-catching fireplace, their home which they once struggled to afford is also decorated by other lavish items like a Hermes throw worth almost $2000. In addition to this, most of their common spaces are adorned by planters that give their home a touch of green amidst its Victorian theme. Moreover, the Duke and Duchess have a lush garden which also appeared in the backdrop of several of their interviews.

In the ancient annals of Montecito, one of North America’s oldest tribes—the Chumash once used to reside. Apparently, the water that is used by the present-day community of Montecito was once a vital lifeline for the locals and bears a sacred weight to them. So a member of the tribe: Eleanor Fishburn, raised concerns regarding the current locals’ use of it. According to her, the water was “pure” and should remain so.

Later Fishburn changed her stance on the issue by remarking that the celebrities who now lived there could support the Chumash tribe back by spreading awareness of their history. Besides the Sussexes, the area is home to celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Ariana Grande, and Tom Cruise. So, the tribe let the matter rest in exchange for recognition of their heritage.
