'Inside Out 2' Is Now on Par With Marvel’s Biggest Blockbuster After Its First Day in Theaters

Inside Out 2 has been one of the most anticipated projects of 2024. A sequel to 2015's Inside Out, the animated coming-of-age film was crucial for Pixar's comeback after it fell victim to the doldrums plaguing the entertainment industry following the pandemic. Nonetheless, the movie delivered. Not only is it resonating with young audiences who are rushing to theaters for its nostalgic value but is also shaping up to have Marvel-level success by the time it leaves theaters.

The 2024 Pixar movie is standing shoulder to shoulder with Marvel's biggest blockbusters after its first day in theaters and could soon break all MCU records.

Inside Out 2 had the biggest stateside opening of the year to date with $85 million, making it the biggest opening for a Disney animated movie post-Covid. Box office prognosticators have predicted the sequel will replicate the success of its Oscar-winning original. This prediction does not seem far-fetched as Inside Out 2 just earned the third-biggest opening day of all time in the Philippines, after Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. But that is not all.

Inside Out 2 has also outdone itself in terms of critical ratings and has been certified fresh with an 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The performances of the cast, especially Maya Hawke as Anxiety, have been praised significantly. Recently, the actress revealed how she managed to bring the disturbed yet friendly character of Anxiety to life on the big screen.

Maya Hawke recently sat for an interview with The Walt Disney Company and discussed the process of creating Anxiety for Inside Out 2. The actress tapped into “the little voice” in her head to portray the character. Hawke shared that she felt a connection to Anxiety from the moment she saw the character's drawing during the audition process.

Even during her voice recording sessions, she found herself gesturing like the animated character. The Stranger Things star admitted to dealing with anxiety herself, although not “medical grade,” which further helped her playing the role. “I was really able to play with that character that I’ve had in my own life”, said Hawke.
