Influencer Animator Regrets His Idea for Will Smith Collaboration After the Oscar Winner Ghosts Him for Over a Month

Everyone is aware of how active Will Smith is on social media, which also means he frequently stumbles upon content creators. Lately, the actor has been keen on giving glimpses into his life, behind the curtains, with entertaining, authentic, and fun videos. In fact, to foster content creation growth, Smith, along with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, founded an organization called Westbrook to empower artists to tell stories through their content that connects with the world. But that is not all.

Will Smith also reaches out to creators himself, occasionally, by DMing them to appreciate their work. However, he recently faced accusations of leaving a creator hanging after promising a collaboration.

Sam Cotton, popular for creating quirky hybrid animations, received a DM from Will Smith last month. The Oscar-winning actor praised Cotton's "creativity" after scrolling through his content. Smith also asked the illustrator if there was any way they could collaborate, to which Cotton proposed an idea about "talking to frozen peas" with a voice message, but never got a response. Taking to Instagram, the creator asked his fans with screenshots of his brief, mostly one-sided, conversation with the Bad Boys star, saying, "Guys, what have I done?"

Whether Smith left the messages on read was not clear, and there is a possibility that it got buried in the actor's DMs or that he forgot to reply. Nonetheless, Cotton, in his post, made it clear that he was really looking forward to this collaboration. However, it would not be fair to draw conclusions about Smith from this one incident, especially considering that he has recently featured one of his favorite content creators in his blockbuster hit, Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

The influencer also became a part of Bad Boys: Ride or Die's promotional campaign. Last month, Will Smith shared his experience collaborating with the social media personality in the movie.

Throughout Bad Boys: Ride or Die's promotions, Will Smith had been sharing glimpses of behind-the-scenes moments from the sets. Last month, he shared yet another clip from Bad Boys, featuring content creator Khaby Lame, who is known for his signature shrug. Smith mentioned that Lame's appearance stole the show during early screenings of the 2024 blockbuster, getting "one of the biggest reactions from the crowd".

Smith also expressed his delight in "finally" collaborating with Lame after being a fan of his content for so long. Apart from Lame, the movie featured influencer Jay Shetty as a wedding officiant as well. With fingers crossed, hopefully, Will Smith would soon notice Sam Cotton's message after the recent Instagram post, and make way for a cute animated collaboration.
