Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the undisputed kings of Hollywood action movies. He is such an icon in the realm that Netflix made him their Chief Action Officer. While the 76-year-old’s breakthrough movie, Conan the Barbarian, laid the groundwork, it was 1984’s The Terminator that cemented him in fans’ hearts. The sci-fi dystopian flick was packed with action to the brim. However, it was also packed with lethal, killing robots who could regenerate their living tissues. Schwarzenegger’s own character, the Terminator aka T-800, was a prime example of that.

Decades later, science has progressed enough. So much so that scientists have been able to replicate one striking aspect of the T-800 already.

The Terminator may soon be walking among us

The iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer The Terminator is famed for its unique theme and plot. The bodybuilding legend’s character’s change of heart from a killer robot sent to eliminate humanity’s last hope to being its savior struck a chord with the audience. Additionally, viewers were taken by awe when they were presented with the living aspects of T-800, the most notable of which was its healing factor. Backed by a thick metal endoskeleton, the robot used regenerative tissue as its skin. Although it wore itself out as it took damages, it was staggeringly rebuilt. Now a research paper at Research Square by scientists, Antoni Gandia and Andrew Adamatzky, has claimed to have built it in reality.

In their paper, the researchers made use of a fungus called Ganoderma sessile, which reacts to light and touch. As such, the fungus can teach itself to grow over a certain section it deems necessary. The scientists expect it to cue the growth of living fungi skin over an endoskeleton which will be cued by biological sensors. In fact, the duo has outright admitted to being inspired by The Terminator itself. Fortunately, the research has taken place solely for peaceful purposes and not for reincarnating a real-life T-800. It would mostly be used for bio-degradable sensors and artificial skins to aid humans.

As the Terminator is inching closer to reality, its actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is busy spreading his message of world peace and fitness.

The ex-governor of California even highlighted his wish for global peace in his 76th birthday wishlist. Moreover, he leads several philanthropic organizations and schemes that strive to make the world a better place. From offering after-school programs to underprivileged kids to highlighting the effects of climate change, the star is doing it all.

The bodybuilding legend also bats for fitness. The 7-time Mr. Olympia frequents many gyms throughout the city of Los Angeles and frequently advises on tips and tricks. Additionally, he also heads a fitness revolution known as Pump Club. In an open-to-all initiative, the legend sends motivation and daily fitness routines straight to his subscribers via newsletters and podcasts. The positivity that Arnold Schwarzenegger radiates through himself has led fans to call his community as “Internet’s positive corner” and the “village”.
