During an interview on the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty, Schwarzenegger admitted, “I was really unhappy.” While reflecting on his tough upbringing, he acknowledged that while others enjoyed a good life, he faced poverty and had to contend with strict parents.
His decision to become a vegan was partly because of their financial limitations. To escape this harsh reality, he crafted a vision for himself. The Terminator actor explained that, much like how people read books and watch movies to immerse themselves in another world, he crafted his very own realm. This is why he frequently daydreamed while seated in the classroom, a habit that often earned him scoldings from the teacher. He would gaze at pictures of Mr. Austria and Mr. Universe, envisioning himself in those very roles.
In his mind’s eye, Schwarzenegger saw himself standing on the grand London stage, with the crowd cheering and shouting in his honor. This imaginative escape helped him cope with the harsh realities of life. Nonetheless, he also shared a moment that was “painful” because of his responsibilities as the governor.

Schwarzenegger praised his former wife, Maria Shriver, for her support and shared responsibilities. Further, this allowed them to navigate their divorce with minimal disruption for their children. Shriver even went to a convent post her divorce. The actor-turned-politician emphasized the importance of teamwork in both his governance and personal life, underscoring the value of partnerships.
