With the help of Warren Littlefield, head of NBC Entertainment, Aniston got a part in Friends. Even though Courtney Cox was the initial choice to play Rachel Green, the role eventually went to Aniston and became her defining role. The David Crane and Marta Kauffman sitcom became a massive hit, and it did not take Aniston long to become a worldwide sensation. Rolling Stone took a behind-the-scene interview in 2001, where Matthew Perry marveled at the Murder Mystery star’s approach to handling the sudden stardom.
Perry, who played the character of Chandler Bing, said he met the 54-year-old actress in a room where “actors who have nine failed TV series meet”. The Fools Rush In actor knew Aniston before the show and “shot into the public eye together”. Perry revealed that handling fame was not very easy for him owing to his drug addiction while filming Friends. However, Aniston dealt with it “really, really well” and did not let her popularity get to her. Perry further went on to say, “I saw her change and do some hard work on herself“.
Perry was not only a good friend to Aniston but also had romantic feelings for her. However, he moved on from his feelings upon realizing that Aniston was interested in another Friends star.

Perry, who rose to fame with his awkward and sarcastic character, Chandler, shared some intriguing insights about Friends in his memoir. The 54-year-old actor said he had a crush on Aniston and even asked her out once. Back when Perry got two exciting jobs in one day, he called Aniston and told her, “You’re the first person I wanted to tell this to”. Later in his book, Perry revealed that he might have come on too strong and made Aniston think that he “liked her too much”.
Therefore, when he actually asked the Cake actress out, she declined his offer and said that she would love to be friends with him instead. Perry also revealed on the Jess Cagle podcast that he knew something was going on between Aniston and David Schwimmer. And the Friends reunion further proved that the on-screen Ross and Rachel did have “feelings” for each other in real life. However, their feelings did not evolve into anything and both the stars moved on with their respective lives.
