“I hope that’ll change”- Ryan Reynolds Advocates for New Oscar Category Months Ahead of 2025 Awards
Beneath the humor, always lies a heart of gold. Known for his satirical yet charming on-screen presence, Hollywood A-lister Ryan Reynolds also possesses a compassionate side beyond his Merc with a Mouth persona. While his frequent mentions of gratitude and admiration for his colleagues on social media have already made it evident, he is now taking it a step further. Advocating for change, he has called upon the Academy Awards to make a positive impact.
Not a major category for the actors to bag, this Oscar category being pressed by the Hollywood star showcases his dedication to supporting the lesser-knowns he works with.

Taking to his social media accounts, “Stunt work doesn’t have a category at The Oscars and I hope that’ll change someday,” wrote Ryan Reynolds, urging the Academy to recognize the work of the stunt team. Citing this year's blockbusters, including his own, he hailed all praises for Deadpool & Wolverine's stunt team for their exceptional work, dedication, and skill. He further highlighted his long-standing collaboration with Alex Kyshkovych, who not only doubles him but also serves as the Fight Coordinator, and second unit director George Cottle.
Not just Deadpool’s, but Ryan Reynolds also commented on Wolverine’s stunt double. Praising Hugh Jackman for performing many of his own stunts, he also acknowledged Daniel Stevens' bravery in taking on the more dangerous tasks as Jackman's stunt double. “I’d let Alex to take a rusty fork to the eye for George,” he offered playfully, before asking the fans to urge the Oscars to consider the category.
Unlike most actors, the Deadpool star did not hesitate to name the exact scenes for the body double’s recognition.

Instead of joking about having Tom Cruise as his stunt double, he gave a shout-out to Andy Lister for his innovative work. He mentioned Lister for “bringing a new and insane Wolvie gear” to the Deadpool Corps fight scene. Substantiating his demand, he noted how legendary filmmakers like Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Chaplin were also skilled stunt performers who told stories with their bodies.
Not just that there were various scenes in the movie where stunt doubles filled in for the actors. In another instance, the Short King Wolverine variant was actually played by Luke Bennett, Hugh Jackman's body double, who stands at 4'11". As reports suggest, Marvel Studios used CGI to superimpose Jackman's face onto Bennett's body, creating a seamless and accurate representation of the character's shorter stature.
