“I have to hand it up” – Stranger Things Star Robert Englund Dwells Back on His Longstanding Career and Retirement From His Famous Role
Stranger Things 4 brought some of the most horrifying spectacles for fans last year. This included a disturbed and intimidating man imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital, charged with a gruesome murder. Soon fans found out that this is the man who gave birth to the havoc-wreaking monster of the show. The actor who played the character of Victor Creel might be recognizable for many he has terrified generations of gothic viewers for decades. Now Robert Englund is saying goodbye to the dream-haunting killer recalling all those golden years of his career.
In celebration of completing 50 years in the industry, he sat down with Variety on March 30. In this interview, the actor shed light on his most famous character Freddy Krueger of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Even after headlining the slasher franchise for several years he only had humble words to say. He said that the character is indeed an icon but he is just an actor who got lucky to receive this opportunity.

Moving forward the veteran horror actor also announced his retirement from this supernatural character. He admitted that he is too old to play primary antagonist now and neither he has the strength to do action scenes. “I’ve got a bad neck and bad back and arthritis in my right wrist. So I have to hang it up, but I would love to cameo,” he remarked.
Though the 75-year-old will not be appearing on the silver screen anymore, a documentary named Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story will give people insight into his longstanding gothic career. While fans will be waiting for this upcoming documentary to know more behind the scenes of his roles, we know one thing for sure that Freddy Kreuger inspired Vecna in Stranger Things, something fans were quick to notice.

There might not be a sleek chance that Netflix subscribers haven’t watched the wildly famous horror drama created by Duffer Brothers. However, it is possible many would have failed to notice it was Robert’s famous character that inspired the transformation of Jamie Campbell Bower into Vecna. The prosthetic of this villainous creature that earned Emmy was actually imitated from the malevolent spirit designed by Wes Craven.

From his fearsome burnt face to the ugly long claws, there are striking similarities to Freddy Krueger. Not to mention, the thing that truly connects these two characters they can capture the minds of humans. Both can kill people in their dreams and psychological trance without much effort.
