“I think I’m gonna call this special ‘Here Comes Jesus’,” said Wanda Sykes in her new Netflix comedy special. Back with a bang, Sykes also hosted the Oscars 2022. After the release of her new comedy special, the comedian talked about Will Smith and the 2022 Oscars incident as well. She revealed how one act by the 54-year-old actor left her speechless.
Some incidents never really leave our memories, and the 2022 Oscar’s slap gate is one of them. In her interview with Variety, Wanda Sykes opened up about why she never talked about the incident, along with many other things. However, after the horrific incident, the Emancipation actor got banned from the Academy ceremonies for ten years. When asked about the same, the comedian revealed Smith contacted her after the incident in 2022.

The interviewer specifically asked Sykes about not mentioning The Slap in her comedy special. To which Sykes said she wished Smith the best. But she also said when the Philadelphia-born star reached out to her, “I had the worst throat cold.” Therefore, she just appreciated the call from the Aladdin actor, but she knew what the call was for. While talking about the slap, Sykes also mentioned she believed Smith could come back from the terrible incident.
As they were talking about the Academy Awards, the Variety interviewer asked her if she would ever host the Oscars.

After the incident, many Hollywood celebrities opened up about their feelings about the incident. Even the Friends with Benefits actress, Mila Kunis, openly and firmly shared her opinion about the incident. However, Wanda Sykes refused to open up about it. But she surely has her thoughts clearly organized when it is a matter of hosting the ceremony once again.

She refused to host the ceremony again during her recent interview. Sykes revealed it was fun when she hosted it with the co-hosts. However, she would not host the ceremony solo. Even if she would not host the Oscars, she certainly rocked, hosting her new comedy special on Netflix.
As for Will Smith, after the incident, he apologized publicly to Chris Rock and his family as well. However, Rock was not ready to talk about it then. However, he addressed the issue in his Netflix comedy special, too.
