Sydney Sweeney is one of those actors who believe in giving their all to a role. Her dedication to a role and her unique approach to it are the real reasons she got a double Emmy nomination in the first place. While almost all of her characters to date have been fictional, for the first time, she changed the path with Reality. However, this time, her approach was a bit different from usual.

What makes her role, in Reality, different from the others is that it is the replica of a real person. Hence, the actress knew from the beginning that she has to put a lot of effort into this. Surprisingly, Sweeney was not aware of the real incident of what happened with Reality Winner. Apparently, not knowing this helped her in a unique way.

In a recent interview with Collider, Sweeney said, “I didn’t know Reality’s story, going into it. I was able to approach it and learn about Reality, as a human being.” It also prevented her from forming no political opinion and from being judgemental.

Instead of the common opinion about the incident, she looked at the former NSA analyst from a humane lens. Interestingly enough, it is one of the first things she loves about the film. The way it humanizes the story of Winner is something that touched Sweeney.

Sweeney’s approach to the character of Reality was something she usually does not do. However, she is not the only one who saw the story of the NSA whistleblower this way.

Not just Sydney Sweeney, but Tina Satter’s approach to writing the story was a bit similar

Satter, who, apart from directing the movie, also wrote a play about it. Overall, she has been attached to the story of Reality since the time it made headlines. However, she did accept that she did not know a lot about the story before coming across the headlines and transcript of Winner’s FBI interrogation.

When it comes to the real Reality Winner, Satter reveals that she is very similar to what she appears in her FBI interrogation transcript. She also praised Sweeney for her amazing portrayal of Winner.

Sweeney seems satisfied with her portrayal of Reality on screen, and we can now witness her performance on HBO Max.
