Sydney Sweeney made a name for herself in Hollywood on her own. She was brought to the spotlight by her getaway role as Cassie Howard from Euphoria. At the moment, she is on an all-time high with two Emmy nominations from two shows that have been very well received. However, her journey to fame was never easy. At one point, the White Lotus actress opened up about the challenges of being young and new to Hollywood.

The 25-year-old sensation once shared about how her first-ever exclusive resort stay made her feel like an outcast. She also highlighted how she is still desperate to make ends meet.

Sydney Sweeney grew up in a small town by the name of Spokane. Being from a low-income middle-class family, financial issues were present throughout her life. Furthermore, she had to deal with her strict parents while grappling with her life pursuits. Her humble roots made her feel like an outsider when she joined the cast of White Lotus alongside big names like Alexandra Daddario and Natasha Rothwell.

The show’s premise was set up as such that the shoot needed to be at a Hawaiian resort. It granted Sweeney her first-time experience of being at such an upscale place. However, she always stayed true to her humble roots, socializing with staff and the place as she would normally do at any other place. Other guests scrutinized her once the hotel opened after the show’s shooting. “…they opened up the resort to guests, and it became clear I did not belong,” she said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

Expanding on her comment, she added how showing up to breakfast in her sweatshirt and pajama shorts earned her glares from guests, leaving her feeling like an outsider. It didn’t bother Sweeney, however, because she was happy getting to know the staff members who had become family by then.

The humility Sweeney has within her comes from all the hardships she had to face when she first entered the industry. Years and multiple shows into her career, she still feels like she can’t take even a 6-month break if she wants to maintain her lifestyle in LA. However, her struggles also seem to resonate with others in the world of streaming and Hollywood.

Euphoria and White Lotus both earned Sydney Sweeney her first two Emmy nominations. People expect an actress of this stature to live well off. Notably, Sweeney reveals that she still feels the crunch because she still panics about her finances. “They don’t pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals,” the star noted. She pointed out that while the bigger stars receive good pay, the younger ones still struggle to make their way.

Her comments can now be related to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, where actors are demanding studios for better pay and compensation, among other factors. It seems that Hollywood always had this crushing issue of finances that is now in the spotlight.
