How Will Smith Rejected a Major Cameo in His Iconic ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’, Book Reveals
This goes without saying that fans wouldn’t have met Will Smith if not for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Introducing this charismatic superstar to the world this show became one of the greatest television shows. Even today this 90s show continues to entertain people blessing them with laugh-out-loud moments, a top-tier theme song, and some of their favorite celebrity cameos.
However, many might not know that the same leading face who popularized this comedy rejected a major cameo. And who knows it could have been memorable just like other actors who showed up for little moments.

Yahoo recently rolled out an exclusive excerpt of the book named Freaks, Gleeks and Dawson’s Creek: How 7 Teen Shows Transformed Television. Written by entertainment journalist Thea Glassman, this book gave readers an insight into the popular shows that have been receiving the support of viewers for decades.
This included The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith.
The report revealed that the Oscar winner used to approve all the things that took place on set. From making changes in the punch lines to rehearsals to casting he held the key in his hands. So when Simon presented his idea about giving a cameo to RuPaul he instantly refused it.
“I remember him saying that would be a really bad idea. And I said, ‘No, listen, hear my story—'” said Lindsay Simon. For the unversed, RuPaul is a drag queen who became with the release of his debut single, Supermodel (You Better Work). According to the book, the Bad Boys star did not reject the ideas of his crew member usually but remained persistent with this one.
Though the actor did not agree on this there is no denying the sitcom had some of the best celebrity cameos.

Throughout the course of the show, Will Smith encountered some of the talented guest actors. This included Felton Perry who played Lester Lewis, the husband of Vivian’s sister Helen Smith. Not to forget, Tyra Banks who was depicted as a former lover of Will’s from his days in Phili. Her appearances come under some of the best episodes of the sitcom that filled viewers with joy.
Many others include Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Vivica A. Fox, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Roundtree, Don Cheadle, Queen Latifah, Jay Leno, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has run for six seasons from 1990 to 1996 and is considered to be a watershed moment for hip-hop and black television.
