It may seem like it was only yesterday that the world lost the beloved Matthew Perry forever. However, it has now been a month since the Friends sensation passed away in October. Still, the wound is still very fresh for fans of the series who swear by the supremacy of the Central Perk gang. Not only did the megahit Friends make its cast household names, but it has also managed to stay relevant a decade since it ended.

Despite its end, the beloved sitcom still continues to give endless memories to fans. However, after Perry’s untimely demise, the cast might have to make certain decisions that might affect the sitcom’s future.

What will happen to Friends now?

Yesterday, The US Sun reported that according to an insider, the team of Friends had been in talks about the show’s “30th anniversary” during the time that Perry’s devastating departure occurred. While it is unlikely that it will now occur, another decision regarding the series streaming now hangs in the balance. Since Perry, along with the remaining cast, partly owned the series’ rights, his “estate” will have ownership over this decision.

Apparently, it is “probable” that the rights for it will now go to Netflix as the series deal with Max is about to “expire”. Well, the source felt that the decision might lean in Netflix’s favor since the OTT mogul is available to a much larger audience compared to Max. Another possibility is that the two streaming companies could share Friends’ rights on a “duo-exclusive basis”.

Since the decision partly rests on Perry’s estate, fans now wonder who has control of it. 

Who did Matthew Perry leave in charge of his estate?

As of now, it has not been made public as to who has inherited the late actor’s legacy. But an entertainment lawyer did shed light on the possibility of who it could be. Since the 17 Again actor did not have a wife or any children, chances are that a trust that he set in place could take over. The second possibility is that he may have assigned an heir to his fortune.

If neither of these is the case, then the estate and the decisions it needs to make regarding Friends may fall upon his immediate family. While Perry was known to be a generous man who would not think twice about donating large sums to charities, it remains to be seen what course his amassed fortune and Friends will take after falling into the hands of whoever he designated for the role.
