A grandmother is a little of a parent, a little of a teacher, and a little of a best friend. Such was the relationship between the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex is the grandson of one of the world’s longest-reigning monarchs and was one of her favorites. Additionally, he was also the Queen’s favorite when it came to spending time and family life. However, the actions of her beloved grandson deeply saddened the Queen in her final days. Therefore, while Queen Elizabeth awaited Prince Harry, he was oceans away in the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle.

A royal insider who has served both late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana vented out a heart-wrenching revelation.

Queen Elizabeth II loved Prince Harry, who was able to lift his grandmother’s mood and make her smile. However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the monarch hurt when they abdicated their royal duties and settled in the States. In an interview with The Mirror UK, the late Queen’s footman Paul Burrell brought forth a saddening fact. Coincidentally, in June 2022, along the lines of the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations, fell her great-granddaughter and Prince Harry’s daughter, Lilibet’s birthday. Lovingly, the late monarch set up a birthday cake with a candle on it, awaiting Prince Harry and the adorable princess who shared her nickname.

The family did not show up and the “candle was never lit.” In what could send waves of emotions down the spine, the Queen still anticipated their arrival on the following day. However, the family was already done with the Princess’s birthday celebrations and left without meeting the Queen. Notably, Lilibet met her late great-grandmother only once, the day before her birthday. Burrell recalled the moment and described it as the Queen being left “confused” by their decision. “They never said goodbye,” remarked the Queen. At that time, the ruler, who was already facing severe health issues, was deeply hurt.

Former US President and 2024 Presidential campaign runner, Donald Trump, has now directed his ire at the Sussexes. Trump has blasted out at the royal couple in what he called being “disrespectful” towards Queen Elizabeth II. The 77-year-old spoke out and criticized the duo’s decision to step aside from royal duties. Additionally, he also accused them of being short-sighted and showing no regard for the late monarch’s love. Moreover, he also cited their criticism of the Queen and the royal family in their interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Coincidentally, Paul Burrell, in his interview, criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as well. He noted that the royal couple’s repeated snubs at the Queen’s attempts to keep her family together were “mind-boggling.” At no point in time did Queen Elizabeth II ever want Prince Harry to move out of the palace’s vicinity, let alone to the United States. However, the Prince’s exit and later accusations of differentiation at the royal family gravely hurt the Queen.
