How Playing Joey Gave Matt LeBlanc A Life-Long Advantage for Conversations? The Actor Once Revealed
Friends gave six iconic characters and created a fan following for each. Chandler resorted to his sense of humor to deal with uncomfortable situations, while Ross provided comic relief with his nerdy antics. His sister, Monica, was an amazing chef with her need for cleanliness in the backdrop, and her childhood best friend, Rachel, was a daddy’s girl who turned independent. And Phoebe was the most vibrant and quirky of the lot, giving the group its artistic flair. But Matt LeBlanc’s character, Joey, is what kept the group alive.
His naive persona would give the group of boys its touch of goofiness. Moreover, some of the most iconic hilarious shots have Joey’s ingenious ideas behind them. While the characters’ lack of intellectual abilities did contribute to the comedy, the effects of the character sketch extended to real life.

When shows become a massive success, the audience generally associates the real-life actors synonymous with their on-screen roles. This is something that was bound to happen to shows like Friends, where Burrow’s prophecy turned into a reality. The ginormous success meant some blurring of the lines and failure to separate the art from the artist. In a conversation with Skavlan TV, LeBlanc revealed his major advantage over conversations. He played a “dim-witted and dumb guy” Joey, which led to people forgetting that he and Joey were two different people.
The Man With A Plan actor stated how people would talk to him slowly, making sure he could gauge everything they were saying. While that seems a little insensitive, the 56-year-old actor had a light fix. He turned the situation around and got a “kick out of it.” He had an advantage over every conversation he had and that apparently happened more than we think.
His character was definitely the sweetest of the lot, the kind of friend that everyone would dream of. Be it staying by Rachel’s side during her pregnancy or showing his sibling-like love for Chandler, Joey gave us a lot of “aww” mixed with laughter. But the famous on-screen roommate duo hit some rocky roads.

LeBlanc bagged his own spin-off series after Friends ended. While the fans were happy to see Joey get his own series after no particular “happy ending” after the ten seasons, Matthew Perry was not very pleased. 18 years after the show, Perry penned the famous feud in his book titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir.
Perry revealed that the Man With A Plan actor went behind their back for the spin-off sitcom, Joey. But unfortunately, the show did not receive the same hype and success as its predecessor. It ran from 2004 to 2006 and then did not get renewed.
