The days counting down to Meghan Markle‘s wedding with Prince Harry were nothing short of chaotic. While this is proven now through the Prince’s memoir, it was still the case without it. The guest list proved to be especially problematic for Markle, who could not invite many of her peers from Hollywood. But contrary to popular belief, she did not cut them off. As per Clare Waight Keller’s statement to Vanity Fair, she included them by incorporating in her dress the classic “small, rounded, neat shoulder,” of Audrey Hepburn, Hollywood’s royalty.

Markle may have taken notes from the greatest royal weddings of the century as she prepped for her big day, but in the end, she decided to do her own.

Much like her approach to the royal life, the Duchess of Sussex’s vision for her wedding dress differed greatly from Kate Middleton’s. Unlike Princess Katherine’s beautifully embroidered dresses, Markle’s was a plain canvas with no embroidery, lace, or pearls, but very true to her American style.
