The actress appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her movie The Girl on the Train in 2016, as reported by Digital Spy. Candidly talking to the host, she remembered when she sparked a Friend’s reunion rumor among the fans. This happened when one of their public shooting locations involved Grand Central, with 300 extras.
Lisa Kudrow, who was Blunt’s co-actor in The Girl on the Train, was named Monica in the movie. And they named Blunt’s character Rachel. The public heard, “OK guys, we’re going to roll on Rachel”. Following this, they heard, “Guys, we’re going to do a closeup on Monica.” That sent the public into a frenzy. They went “IS THIS FRIENDS? FRIENDS REUNION!”
Alas, to fans’ disappointment, that wasn’t true. And the movie’s makers changed the name Monica to Martha. Friends undoubtedly remains among the top feel-good sitcoms and this incident just proves that. But luckily for fans, the 10 seasons did receive a special Friends: Reunion in 2021.
But The Devil Wears Prada actress has another interesting connection to American sitcoms apart from stirring up a rumor. And it is the show that aired its first episode the same year Friends aired its last.
