In the realm of espionage cinema, the upcoming Argylle boasts of not only an A-lister ensemble including Henry Cavill and Dua Lipa but also one of the most legendary directors of all time: Matthew Vaughn. Before taking the helm of this eagerly awaited film, Vaughn had already enjoyed success in the spy genre through his 2014 flick: Kingsman: The Secret Service. However, Argylle presented a unique challenge to Vaughn unlike any other he had faced before.

To stop the leading actor from testing his patience, Vaughn resorted to nothing but GPS tracking.

During this year’s New York Comic Con, Matthew Vaughn spoke about the one actor whose presence dominates Argylle the most: the cat in the backpack named Alfie. After feeling let down by a professional “cat actor”, Vaughn chose to bring his daughter’s cat Chip into the mix. However, Chip pulled so many disappearing acts on set that they were forced to use a “tracker” on the adorable feline.

Even the movie’s trailer that left netizens amused with Cavill’s appearance, the cat was present in the majority of scenes. So it is safe to say that it plays a crucial role in the movie. Still, of all the megastars that feature in Argylle, Vaughn probably did not expect the cat to be the most demanding one. Well, at least this distinctive struggle made for a hilarious anecdote for fans.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Argylle’s director addressed the conspicuous absence of the actors in its promotional campaigns. Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, the cast was forced to sit out during the marketing spree. Although Vaughn confessed to feeling frustrated because of this, he also acknowledged that the protest presented a far weightier and more crucial issue.

After the strikes conclude, he looks forward to bringing their staggering star power into the loop. After all, the movie not only boasts of younger stars like Cavill, Dua Lipa, and John Cena but also features various celebrated veterans like Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine O’Hara, and Bryan Cranston! With their combined allure, the film is bound to pull in massive audiences. Especially with Vaughn’s mischievous cat’s endearing presence.
