Several scenes from the season 2 finale of House of the Dragon- scheduled to air on August 4- leaked onto TikTok on Tuesday night showcasing actor and director Joshua Ben-Tovim appearing as Brynden Rivers, also known as Bloodraven, in a vision sequence. He was depicted seated on his weirwood throne as the Three-Eyed Raven in several videos, including around 30 minutes of footage. In the original Game of Thrones series, the Three-Eyed Raven was portrayed by Struan Rodger and later by the late Max von Sydow.
While the series never explicitly identified this character as Brynden Rivers, House of the Dragon seems poised to address that. Rivers, born several decades after the events of House of the Dragon, was a notable figure in Westeros, being the illegitimate son of Aegon IV and later serving as Hand of the King and Master of Whisperers to Aerys I. It remains unclear whether Ben-Tovim's appearance will be a one-time event or if he will reprise the role in future seasons.
If HBO decides to further develop the character, Rivers has the potential to become a fan favorite. And since House of the Dragon’s ongoing season delves variably into the Game of Thrones blueprint, the possibility cannot be entirely ruled out.

A month ago, Matt Smith attended the premiere of House of the Dragon season 2 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. When approached by Deadline for insights on the tonal shift in the second installment of the hit HBO series, Smith noted that season 2 returns to "the formula of Game of Thrones of old," contrasting with the character dynamics from season 1.
Smith explained that the second season sees characters exploring “different worlds” across various regions of Westeros, reminiscent of Game of Thrones, unlike the first season where characters were more frequently grouped together. Now, with the addition of one of the most enigmatic Targaryens, Brynden Rivers, it seems that the season is also living up to a Game of Thrones-sized success.
