'High and Low' Remake: Cast, Plot, Trailer, Release Date And All We Know About The Spike Lee Flick

Art imitates art. And so does Spike Lee, Akira Kurowsawa. Specifically the up and coming Highest 2 Lowest. Known for his blatant addressal of starkly controversial topics, for his time and beyond, like his depiction of racial disagreement in Do The Right Thing, and his Denzel Washington starrer, the renowned Malcolm X, to get the idea at a surface level. Making it only natural for him to take an interest in the plotlines of the original High and Low.
Following a plot of Lee’s own liking, but mostly because of the gravity of its story, Lee keeps the details of the movie mostly under the covers and rightfully so, but we do have some information that has been leaked from the pot.

Set to hit the screens at a yet to be revealed date, Spike Lee has revealed the movie's global launch with Apple Original Films, partnering with A24 for its theatrical screening, back to back, as revealed by Deadline. Keeping respect for his work, and rightfully so, Lee revealed the project to be a rebound for the “dynamic duo”, by which he means himself and none other than Denzel Washington, and a referral to their duology in movies like Mo’ Better Blues, Malcolm X, He got Game and lastly, Inside Man, some of the best Spike Lee movies to be around.
Lee is adamant about his art not being unexplained, but also not overly explained. While we largely have an idea about the line of plot, it can still be a thought-poker bout how Lee is reinterpreting the crime slash thriller bit. Kurosawa’s High and Low was itself an adaptation of Ed McBain’s novel King’s Ransom, and now Lee is adding another layer of reinterpretation. From what is revealed in the interview, “In our film Denzel Washington is a music mogul,” in parallel to Kurosawa’s Toshiro Mifune, the shoemaker, “and his reputation as the best ears in the business,” he further gives away, allowing a peek into this world.
Lee dipping his hands into the 'high and low' would not be the first time the cinema virtuoso has stepped up to tell a tale about his own people and their brewing and expression of camaraderie.
Highest 2 Lowest, but always hitting home
To pay homage, he does so, this time around, by bringing in the newer generations to showcase his narratives for him, handing over one of the main roles to the Harlem rapper, Rakim Mayers, well known as A$AP Rocky. New era rapper Ice Spice, is also set to be joining the screen alongside. The film is also set up for competition at the Red Sea international Film Festival, this coming season.
